Artist’s Statement

Whether photographing in the wetlands of Terrebonne Parish, along the banks of the Mississippi River, or in the studio with found treasures, it is a journey of exploring my Southern heritage. The subtleties of nature scream out to be noticed as they blend into the chaos of their environment. It is my quest to bring forth this beauty in intimate details, to reveal the calm within the storm, as a thing set apart, the handiwork of a creative God.

Biography

Dede Lusk’s love for photography began in childhood, as she roamed the streets of her native Clinton, Louisiana, with a Brownie box camera. After graduating from Louisiana State University, working, and raising a family, she began to pursue her interest in photography seriously. In 1999, she attended the first of many photography workshops, studying with noted teachers of fine art photography and learning to master the art of digitally capturing and printing images in black-and-white. Dede has exhibited in shows nationally and internationally, and her work is in corporate and private collections. Dede and her husband, Joel, make their home in Baton Rouge.
