STELLAZINE is a collaboration between myself and Mike Hartley (of bigflannel). We began during the pandemic when I was needing to do something creative to counter the feeling of being undone.

So for me to stay tied to photography, we began to work together to produce our first photozine. We went back and forth about how it should look; we looked at our visual influences, we talked a lot and realized we just clicked. After our first meeting we had to work together virtually (even though at the time we were both in NYC), and so STELLAZINE was born.

I find the bodies of work to publish, looking for something I feel needs a larger audience. It can be any genre which you can see on the website. I then edit and sequence the work and then Mike does all the graphic designing. There is some back and forth, but we usually see eye to eye right away. When we have it all together, we send to the online publisher and wait to get our copies.

Each photographer gets 10 copies to do with what they will.  If the issue sells out, we split the proceeds with the photographer.

I made by first zine in 1978 using collage and Xerox, because there were no computers or software. I loved the immediacy of publishing and the ability to call the shots.  I was lucky to find artist/designers who see the creative collaborative process in the same way as I do. That is the real joy in doing this.
