Call for Entry Deadline: November 1st

Welcome to Lake City, SC, an unassuming small town that’s been celebrating Southeastern artists for ten years and counting! The Lake City ArtFields Collective has led the charge with their annual flagship event, ArtFields, that transforms Lake City into a town-wide art gallery by displaying art in downtown businesses. Nearly 400 artworks, plus around 200 student artworks, are featured everywhere from renovated warehouses and restaurants to boutiques, art galleries, and barber shops. The event, happening in 2023 from April 19 – 29, also includes live entertainment, a Makers Market, Portrait Contest, and people’s choice voting. At the culmination of the event, over $100,000 in prizes and partnerships are awarded to the competition artists.  Artists, curators, art lovers, and more flock to the town for 11 days of art filled fun and leave feeling inspired and energized.

That’s not where it ends for art in Lake City. Three year-round fine art galleries house rotating exhibitions, as well as previous ArtFields winners. Jones-Carter Gallery and TRAX Visual Art Center have 4 shows per year, including ArtFields, and Crossroads Gallery is refreshed each year with a selection of winners. These galleries serve as another way to give Southeastern artists a platform to share their artwork and stories.

A robust public art program adds an artistic flair to the downtown as sculptures, murals, and more dot the area. Each piece tells a unique story, from a spaceship “Upward & Onward” by Mike Fowle and Patz Fowle commissioned in honor of Dr. Ronald E. McNair, an astronaut on the Challenger mission whose hometown was Lake City to the mesmerizing layers of “From This Moment Forward” by Herman Keith, Jr. that was inspired by the Gee’s Bend Quilters and was created in partnership with the local schools. No matter when you stop in, you’ll be greeted with warm Southern hospitality and art around every corner.

The ArtFields Collective also aims to foster creativity in children through the ArtFields Jr. program. Each year, South Carolina students participate in the Jr. art competition during the ArtFields event and have the opportunity to win not only win prizes, but also to have their artwork on display in a traveling show that visits each of the four regions of the state: Pee Dee, Midlands, Upstate, and Lowcountry. The programming also includes school field trips, hands on art classes, and outreach classes.

ArtFields 2023 marks year eleven, the beginning of the next decade of awarding of awarding life-changing prizes, helping launch the careers of countless artists, and acting as the catalyst for Lake City’s transformation into a burgeoning arts mecca. Their strategic plan, ArtFields: Taking Root, that maps out what the future holds, can be found on the ArtFields Collective website.

With art, the possibilities are endless. If you’re interested in being part of the annual event, artists can submit artwork online through November 1st, 2022. Other opportunities will be listed online. The team can be contacted by emailing or calling 843-374-0180. Learn more at
