John Cary grew up in Pensacola and returned there at the end of a long career in photography. He will take us to locations in the Florida panhandle that have remained largely unchanged in the last 50 years. Places nature and man have left to their own devices. We’ll headquarter on St. George Island, Florida, a picturesque 28-mile long barrier island with quiet beaches. The first day will be spent boating in the early morning and again for sunset toward Dog Island, Cape St. George Island, and St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge. Friday we’ll visit the sleepy coastal town of Appalachicola with all its quirky oyster houses, shops, and historical architecture. And Saturday morning we’ll watch the sun rise while we float up the pristine waters of the lower Appalachicola River and its smaller, wild and scenic tributaries. There will also be nighttime beach shooting and group critiques.
